The report of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg for the years 1852-53 mentions the Chernetsov brothers’ travels through the Caucasus, Palestine and Cairo. The artist had already used the fountain of the so-called Khabanija Mosque, which no longer exists, as a motif in earlier works.
The depiction from 1842 is preserved in the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. His elder brother Grigori also painted the fountain in 1845 (now in the Picture Gallery in Tver).
