Lotto No. 5 +

A rare "C1" chair,

designed by Verner Panton in 1959 for Plus-linje/Denmark, hemispherical steel plate seat shell, foam upholstery, red fabric covering, the metal cone covered with black imitation leather, rubber edge, swivelling mechanism, height 74.5 cm, depth 64 cm, width 64 cm, height of seat 46 cm. (DR)
Very good original condition.
Provenance: Achtung Kunst Collection, Austria.
Literature: A. v. Vegesack, Verner Panton. Das Gesamtwerk, Weil am Rhein 2000, pp. 44/45.
There exists only a second example of this "C1" chair with a cone-shaped foot, whose condition, however, is worse, and which features different colours. Unlikethe present model, the serial model of the "C1" has a steel frame with an X- shaped or dish-shaped base. In its consistent reduction to the geometric forms of the cone and sphere in combination with the colours red and black, this chair numbers among the most important programmatic solutions in 20th-century design history.
