A Chinoiserie Secretary Desk for the European Market,


in the English George III style of the mid-19th century, 4-part wooden body with freestanding black lacquer decoration and rich gold decor, on cabriole legs, surmounted by a desk-like detachable writing element with 2 small external drawers and a hinged writing surface with fuchsia-coloured fabric insert, top with 2 doors with medallion-shaped panels, volute-shaped finial with plate decoration in the middle, interior with inner drawers and compartments, secret drawer on the right side, ivory knobs, c. 170 x 74 x 69 cm, lateral handles, in well-maintained condition. Furniture of this type was produced on a large scale during the boom in chinoiserie objects in the second half of the 19th century, in line with European furniture styles. This model, however, stands out due to the rich gold lacquer decoration with depictions of landscapes and figures.
