Erwin Bohatsch - vendere e comprare opere

8 October 1957, Mürzzuschlag (Austria)

The painter, draughtsman and graphic artist Erwin Bohatsch is one of the most highly regarded and successful Austrian contemporary artists. He is also one of the most important pioneers of abstract painting in Austria, alongside Hubert Scheibl and Herbert Brandl.

Born in 1957 in Mürzzuschlag, Bohatsch studied between 1971 and 1975 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under the painter Walter Eckert. Since the early 1980s, Bohatsch has been displaying his artwork across the world in individual and group exhibitions. In 1983, he was awarded the Otto Mühl Prize and received a DAAD scholarship for a one-year working stay in Berlin. Since 2005, Bohatsch has been Professor for Abstract Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

In 2016, the Albertina dedicated a major exhibition to him with an overview of his artistic works from the last forty years. Numerous renowned museums throughout Austria also house works by Bohatsch in their collections. He manages to unite elements in his pictures that would otherwise seem be to opposites: concrete representation and abstraction, colour and non-colour, lines and expanses. Today, the artist lives in both Vienna and in Beistein near Fehring.

Works by Erwin Bohatsch come up in Dorotheum auctions on a regular basis. On 2 December 2021, his Ohne Titel (Untitled) painting was sold for €19,426 as part of a contemporary art auction.
